Description

The Neutrino Elastic Scattering Observation with NaI(Tl) (NEON) experiment is designed to detect coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) using reactor anti-electron neutrinos with a 16.7 kg NaI(Tl) detector. By employing a novel crystal encapsulation technique, the experiment achieves enhanced light collection efficiency, yielding 25.6 photoelectrons per keV. The NEON detector is installed in the tendon gallery of Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant Unit 6 in Yeonggwang, South Korea, located 23.7 meters from the reactor core. Data taking began in April 2022, and stable operations have thus far accumulated 785.4 days of reactor-on data and 223.4 days of reactor-off data. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the NEON experiment and discuss the research achievements.
