Description
The LEGEND collaboration is searching for neutrinoless double-beta decay
($0\nu\beta\beta$) of $^{76}$Ge in the first phase of its experimental
program, LEGEND-200. Building on key technological innovations from its
predecessor high-purity germanium experiments, GERDA and the MAJORANA
DEMONSTRATOR, LEGEND aims to realize the tonne-scale LEGEND-1000
experiment, with a discovery sensitivity to $0\nu\beta\beta$ half-lives
beyond $10^{28}$ years. In this talk, an overview of the LEGEND
experimental program will be presented, along with the $0\nu\beta\beta$
limit from the combined analysis of the final GERDA and MAJORANA
DEMONSTRATOR data sets and the first LEGEND-200 data. Emphasis will be
placed on the latest LEGEND-200 background results following the recent
maintenance and reconfiguration of the detector array. These results
provide a key assessment of the experiment's performance and offer
important experimental input for the design and projected sensitivity
of LEGEND-1000.
