Description
The Hyper-Kamiokande (HK) experiment, currently under construction in Japan, is the world’s largest underground water Cherenkov detectors designed to study neutrino properties. Its Outer Detector (OD), primarily designed to detect particles coming in or going out the detector, to identify cosmic-ray muons, upward going and partially contained neutrino events. The OD consists of approximately 3,600 3-inch photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) and associated OD electronics, including 652 pairs of splitters and digitizers. The OD digitizers and splitters will be assembled in underwater vessels and installed inside the HK water tank.
The HK UK and Korea groups are responsible for the OD electronics, and their production is carried out in Korea. The OD electronics and their calibration system must be properly configured and tested to ensure their accuracy. The OD electronics calibration system consists of Python-based software, an arbitrary waveform generator that mimics PMT signals, OD electronics hardware (splitters and digitizers), and a data processing board (DPB).
In this presentation, we provide an overview of the OD electronics and report on the current status of their production in Korea, the calibration system setup, and calibration activities in the UK and Korea. The calibration procedures include pedestal measurement, threshold scan, noise scan, and linearity test.
