Description

The Hyper-Kamiokande (HK) experiment is a next-generation water Cherenkov detector designed to explore neutrino physics, nucleon decay, and astrophysical neutrinos and is actively under construction with the goal of acquiring data in 2028. HK requires a comprehensive calibration program to achieve the detector-response precision needed for its broad physics program. The HK calibration system is designed to characterize and monitor key detector properties, including the optical properties of the detector medium, photomultiplier tube (PMT) response, timing and charge reconstruction, detector geometry, and long-term stability. A coordinated set of calibration devices and analysis methods will provide measurements throughout the large detector volume and enable a reliable detector-response model.

This poster presents an overview of the HK calibration strategy, its principal performance requirements, and the roles of its major subsystems. These include calibration sources and deployment systems, optical and timing calibration tools, monitoring systems, and associated analysis frameworks. Their complementary measurements will establish the energy scale, timing calibration, optical model, and PMT-response model, while monitoring time-dependent changes in detector performance. As part of this broader program, the Korean group is developing a light-injection system and conducting PMT pre-calibration. These efforts will provide controlled optical signals and reference PMT-characterization data for detector commissioning and subsequent in-situ calibration.
